Wilderness hike to Botnedalen in Tokke. Some places are wilder than others. Here in Botnedalen, 20 km from Dalen center towards Froland, is one of them. And if you go further inland up Hovundåi and behind the peaks there (14-1500 meters above sea level), you're in for a real treat. Raw nature with steep mountains, beautiful valleys and vibrant rivers with great fishing lakes in between. I can't believe we have areas like this in West Telemark. It's an incredible place, where you can imagine pastoral farming and travel far back in time. You're almost completely disconnected from the world. Little or no coverage (well, I have satellite on my Garmin). Constant sound from the river and a dense valley upwards. Here you pass Flovatn, Vierrotjønn, Langtjønn, Isdalsrotjønni, Midtvatn (good fishing) and finally Poddevatn. There are several ways to get there. Up Vendalen or over Hestekvæven are alternative routes. Poddevatn lies up there in its hard and brutal nature. 10 km from Botndalsvatnet (about a bunch of valleys). It's a fantastic experience just to stand there and take it all in. Walking along the river gives visual impressions where water, stone and rock work together to transport it downwards. Wonderful sound and sight! There are fish in most of the lakes and in the gullies. We had BaseCamp down by Botnedalsvatnet and went on a day trip.
