About this hike
Londalen - a quiet and atmospheric hike behind Mælefjell
Londalen is a quiet and lush valley behind the mighty Mælefjell mountain, where the forest meets the mountain in a natural transitional landscape. This is a hike for those who like softer paths, silence, mossy rocks and a real glimpse of Telemark nature at its most harmonious.
Hiking route:
You drive up from Seljord center to Slåkja in the upper part of Grunningsdalen - a beautiful mountain valley with many hiking opportunities. From the parking lot at Slåkja, you cross the bridge or the river, and from there you follow a clear path into Londalen.
The hike takes place in the upper forest boundary, in a beautiful belt between dense forest and open mountain terrain. It's easy to walk here, with varied surfaces and a nice flow in the landscape. You'll walk between old pine trees and open moorland, with constant glimpses of the mountain peaks on one side and the valley floor on the other.
Goal and experience:
Londalen can be experienced as a hiking destination in its own right, or as part of a larger round trip. Many people also use it as an approach to peaks such as Gryvenuten, Blåtjønnfjellet or further up the hills towards Hjartdal.
Facts about the hike:
- Length: Approx. 4-6 km round trip, depending on how far you walk
- Gradient: Moderate - smooth and gentle climb
- Level: Easy to intermediate
- Surface: Clear path, forest and marshland.
- Time: 1.5-2 hours round trip
Hiking tips:
- Great hike all year round - especially beautiful in autumn colors
- Suitable for families and those who want a quiet hike without climbing
- Makes a good introduction to longer mountain hikes
- Mosquito repellent in the summer season - the valley is lush and humid
