About this hike
Bjørgenuten - Seljord's most popular viewing point
Bjørgenuten is perhaps the most visited peak in Seljord - and not without reason. From the top you get a magnificent view of Seljord town center, Seljordvatnet, Dyrskuplassen and the surrounding mountains. This is a hike that many people find their way to, both locals and visitors.
The tour starts from the parking lot at Reinstaul, along the road up towards Bjørge. From there you follow a tractor road into Borkebudalen, at the back of Bjørgefjell. After a while, the hike turns into a trail, and here the climb begins in earnest. It's quite steep in places, so take your time - you're allowed to breathe!
The path to the summit is well marked and much used, and good paths make it easy to find your way. There are several routes up to Bjørgenuten, but the most common trail is both safe and clear. Be aware that parts of the trail lie in a sheltered "backwater" and may be covered in snow until late spring, especially after snowy winters.
Bjørgefjell has several small peaks and viewpoints in the surrounding area, so it's worth setting aside some time to explore - there are both great picnic spots and hidden gems with fantastic views.
Tour tips:
- The hike is suitable for most people with some hiking experience and fitness.
- Dress for the weather and season - it can be chilly at the top.
- Take your camera - the view is something else!
