Nupsredet (1362 metres above sea level). Haukelifjell, Ryfylkeheiane.
The first time you go on a hike outside Seljord, you might as well go outside Telemark, at least... barely. Up on Haukeli you can see Store Nup and Vesle Nup, the latter being within the county. We walked up from "where they sell goat cheese" on the plains before the Haukeli tunnel. This is an incredibly beautiful area. Nupsdalen is long, wild and beautiful. If you follow the path by Nupshallene, you'll come to little Nupstjørna. You then follow a concave "U"-shaped valley between Verjesteinsnuten and Store Nup. All the way up at the end, after 4-500 vertical metres, you are over 6 km. Up in Nupsredet you can sit and gaze at Norwegian nature at its best. You can also continue on to Store Nup, but it's a long walk with ascents and descents. It's nice on Haukelifjell just before the snow and storms fall into place.
